Registered Nurse - Cardiothoracic Operating Rooms
About The Position
Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg, Virginia, is hiring a Registered Nurse for its Cardiothoracic Operating Room (CTOR) team. This is a full-time, day-shift role working Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with required call. For call purposes, the candidate must live within 30 minutes of the hospital. Weekday call runs from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. the following morning, approximately two to three times per week. Weekend call is 24 hours on Saturday and Sunday, twice per month. The department includes two operating rooms and one hybrid OR. The nurse works with cardiothoracic surgeons, anesthesiologists, cardiovascular technologists, and physician assistants, and coordinates with the CCU team for postoperative care. One-on-one training and precepting are available for nurses new to the Cardiac Operating Room. The Cardiothoracic Operating Room Scrub Registered Nurse maintains a safe, sterile environment during cardiothoracic procedures. The role includes managing instruments, maintaining the sterile field, assisting the surgeon, completing surgical counts, and coordinating with the surgical team. The nurse supports complex open-heart and thoracic procedures, including bypass surgery, valve replacement, aortic dissection repair, heart transplant, TAVR, and open and minimally invasive thoracic cases, and delivers safe, effective, quality, patient- and family-centered care. Procedures performed by the team include aortic root replacement, pericardiectomy, thoracotomy, transmyocardial revascularization, tricuspid valve repair or replacement, ventricular assist device placement, video-assisted thoracic surgery, and repairs for aortic aneurysm or dissection, atrial myxoma, atrial septal defect, patent foramen ovale, ventricular septal defect, and ventricular aneurysm. The full-time base pay range is $41.93–$61.01 per hour. Additional compensation may include shift differentials, on-call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonuses. A $20,000 sign-on bonus is available for qualified candidates. Requirements
- Associate degree in Nursing.
- Registered Nurse licensure.
- BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
- At least one year of operating room experience; general OR experience is accepted.
- Perioperative training.
- Must live within 30 minutes of the hospital for call purposes.

Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe and sterile environment throughout cardiothoracic surgical procedures.
- Manage surgical instruments and maintain sterility and the sterile field.
- Assist the surgeon by providing necessary tools.
- Perform surgical counts to ensure instruments are accounted for.
- Coordinate care with the broader surgical team.
