About The Position

Provides professional nursing care to patients and families in an acute clinical care environment, guided by the Sarasota Memorial Health Care System (SMHCS) nursing professional practice model and in accordance with the ANA's Standards of Professional Practice. May float to all Sarasota Memorial Health Care System hospital campuses. As a member of the Ultimate Float Team, you will provide professional nursing care in accordance with ANA and AACN Standards of Professional Practice and SMHCS policies (policy 126.054). This role requires adaptability, strong clinical skills, and a commitment to excellence in patient care. Patients requiring complex nursing assessment and care, including but not limited to: Orthopedic & Trauma Care – Fractures, orthopedic abnormalities requiring surgical intervention, traction application, splinting, and skeletal immobilization. Neurological Care – Acute Traumatic Brain Injuries with potential ventriculostomy management. Cardiac Care – Titration of cardiac drips (Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, etc.).

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or a diploma program.
  • For new hires after 2012, Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing (BSN) is required within specified timeframe as outlined in the New Hire BSN Agreement policy (126.045).
  • Two (2) years of relevant work experience.
  • Successful completion of Basic Arrhythmia test within 90 days of employment.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within six (6) months of hire.
  • National Institutes of Health (NIH) Stroke Scale certification within thirty (30) days of hire.
  • Basic working knowledge of commonly used computer applications.
  • BLS: Basic Life Support/CPR
  • FL RN: FL Registered Nurse License

Responsibilities

  • Provides professional nursing care to patients and families in an acute clinical care environment.
  • Floats to all Sarasota Memorial Health Care System hospital campuses.
  • Provides skilled, patient-centered care across 20+ units at the Sarasota Campus.
  • Opportunities to float to specialty units such as Cornell and SMH Venice Campus.
  • Potential to float to ICU and Pediatrics as needed.
  • Provide professional nursing care in accordance with ANA and AACN Standards of Professional Practice and SMHCS policies.
  • Perform complex nursing assessments and care for patients.
  • Manage patients with Orthopedic & Trauma Care needs, including fractures, orthopedic abnormalities requiring surgical intervention, traction application, splinting, and skeletal immobilization.
  • Manage patients with Neurological Care needs, including Acute Traumatic Brain Injuries with potential ventriculostomy management.
  • Manage patients with Cardiac Care needs, including titration of cardiac drips (Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, etc.).
