About The Position

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring full-time Registered Nurses for our Emergency Department, home to Hampton Roads’ only Level I Trauma Center. At Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Emergency Department nurses care for patients in one of the region’s most advanced and fast-paced clinical environments. Our 53-bed Emergency Department is equipped to manage a wide range of medical emergencies, with approximately 10% of cases related to trauma. As part of a Level I Trauma Center, you will work alongside experienced emergency medicine providers, specialists, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver timely, high-quality care when patients need it most. Nurses in this department gain exposure to complex emergency, trauma, cardiac, stroke, critical care, and specialty cases while building advanced clinical skills in a collaborative environment. Sentara Norfolk General Emergency Department has been recognized with the Emergency Nurses Association Lantern Award, honoring exceptional and innovative leadership, practice, education, advocacy, and research. Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is the region’s first Magnet hospital, a 525-bed medical center, a primary teaching facility, and home to the area’s only Level I Trauma Center within a 126-mile region. Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Registered Nursing required
  • Registered Nurse license required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire
  • RNs who thrive in a fast-paced setting
  • Communicate effectively
  • Demonstrate strong critical thinking

Nice To Haves

  • BSN or MSN preferred
  • Students completing an accredited nursing program may be considered
  • Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nurse license may be considered
  • NIHSS, TCRN, SCRN, TNCC, CEN, PALS, and ACLS preferred
  • Prior RN experience preferred
  • Emergency Department experience preferred
  • Strong candidates with related acute care, critical care, intermediate care, trauma, cardiac, stroke, or med/surg experience are encouraged to apply
  • New graduate RNs or experienced RNs with no emergency department expeirence encouraged to apply
  • Motivated nurses who are ready to grow in emergency nursing are encouraged to apply
