B7E and 7E Step Down is a fast-paced, highly collaborative teaching unit serving medical patients with acute illness or injury, or an exacerbation of a chronic condition affecting one or more body systems. The unit has a strong respiratory focus while treating a full range of medical diagnoses. Step-down patients may require additional interventions, including cardiac drips, insulin drips, BiPAP, and chronic ventilators. Nurses work in collaborative environments with strong interdisciplinary teams and a patient-centered care model in a richly diverse workspace. Under the direction and general supervision of the Nurse Manager, the registered nurse uses evidence-based practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, hospital policies and procedures, and medical staff direction. The nurse uses knowledge and ability to apply the nursing process and develop a plan of care that addresses the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs of patients and their families.
