About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care in an environment of continuous quality improvement and directs and guides patient teaching and the activities of ancillary personnel. The nurse exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and maintains strict confidentiality. This full-time position is based at the Belpre Emergency Department and is scheduled for a 12-hour night shift, totaling 72 hours biweekly (0.9 FTE).

The nurse assesses and reassesses patients, plans and implements care, monitors interventions, and revises care and teaching plans as diagnoses and needs change. The role includes triage, admission, handoff, transfer, and discharge procedures; patient and family education; collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary team members; and timely documentation in Meditech. The nurse promotes positive patient experiences and therapeutic relationships, communicates changes in condition using SBAR, delegates appropriately, and seeks help from appropriate resources when needed.

Current Ohio RN licensure is required, or a West Virginia RN license if working in West Virginia. BLS and annual stroke education certification are required upon hire. ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and NRP are required within one year of employment. ASLS certification is preferred upon hire. RQI compliance must be maintained. Compensation may consider education, experience, tenure, and internal equity. Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse licensure in Ohio, or a West Virginia RN license if working in West Virginia.
• BLS certification and annual stroke education certification upon hire.
• ACLS certification within one year of employment.
• PALS certification within one year of employment.
• TNCC certification within one year of employment.
• NRP certification within one year of employment.
• Maintain compliance in RQI.
• Verbal, clerical, and numerical skills; manual dexterity; color vision; and near visual acuity.

Responsibilities

• Participate in bedside shift reports and handoffs.
• Perform hourly rounding.
• Obtain patient assessments and reassessments according to nursing policy.
• Coordinate and document timely patient, family, or significant-other teaching in preparation for discharge.
• Implement and monitor nursing interventions.
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in Meditech within required timeframes.
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounding and collaborate with team members to identify patient needs.
• Recognize changes in patient condition and communicate with physicians using SBAR.
• Manage patient care and delegate appropriately based on patient needs and caregiver skills.
• Use interpersonal communication that supports productive relationships with team members, trust, and mutual respect.
• Establish empathetic, trust-based therapeutic relationships with patients and families and promote a positive patient experience.
• Seek assistance from appropriate resources as needed.
• Maintain current knowledge of and practice within hospital policies and clarify unclear healthcare-team communications through proper authority channels.
• Triage patients effectively and maintain triage competency.
• Collect data regarding patients’ physical, psychological, and psychosocial health status.
• Develop and revise patient care and teaching plans based on assessed needs, diagnoses, and changes in need.
• Perform admission, handoff, transfer, and discharge procedures as part of the nursing process.
• Coordinate the physician’s plan of care with admission assessments and discharge needs.
• Use A.I.D.E.T. during all patient interactions.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
