About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) assumes responsibility and accountability for assigned patients for a designated period. This role involves collaboration with physicians and the multidisciplinary patient care team to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Requirements

Graduated from an accredited Professional School of Nursing.
Must have valid Illinois Registered Nurse Licensure.
CPR Certification required.
Compassionate, understanding, self-motivated, and able to communicate well with others.
Must be willing to cross-train to other departments within Mason District Hospital.
Demonstrates competency in nursing skills.
Ability to work independently, prioritize, and complete tasks in a timely manner.
Ability to manage stressful situations.
Willing to receive on-the-job training on hospital policies and procedures.
Knowledgeable in Telemetry Monitoring or willing to learn.
Able to complete the orientation program within 12 weeks.
Must be able to perform basic computer proficiency.
Willing to learn and adhere to department and hospital electronic health record (EHR) documentation practices.

Nice To Haves

Willing to obtain ACLS and PALS Certifications.

Responsibilities

Receives patients for admission and completes the admission intake process, including, but not limited to, obtaining a detailed history, obtaining and reconciling patient medications, performing a comprehensive initial nursing physical assessment, obtaining consents, and performing admission screens and education as indicated.
Performs age-appropriate and comprehensive initial assessments and reassessments.
Develops individualized care plans in partnership with patients and families.
Evaluates patient progress toward attainment of goals, revising plan of care when indicated.
Collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, according to the nursing process.
Participates in continuing education and maintains certifications and licensure as appropriate.
Obtains and records vital signs.
Provides basic bedside care.
Manages basic life support needs.
Prioritizes and reprioritizes patient care needs considering both physical and psychosocial elements.
Supervises and delegates to unlicensed assistive personnel based on job description and patient needs.
Builds teamwork when supervising and delegating to others.
Works directly under physicians, assisting during exams, diagnostic testing, and treatments.
Prepares, administers, and records prescribed medications within a specified time frame.
Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
Demonstrates competency and performs nursing skills to licensure and scope of practice.
Performs routine specimen collections according to physician’s order.
Initiates corrective action whenever monitoring equipment indicates adverse symptoms.
Inspects and operates medical equipment appropriately.
Reports any suspected abuse to the appropriate agencies.
Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by the physician. Educates patients and significant others on managing their illness/injury by explaining post-treatment home care needs, diet/nutrition/exercise programs, self-administration of medication and rehabilitation, and referrals to other healthcare professionals for follow-up treatment.
Monitors patient telemetry and notifies the physician of any changes or concerns as needed.
Assists in mentoring other new RN staff to Mason District Hospital.
Displays professionalism while completing multiple urgent tasks in a timely manner.
Manages emergency situations professionally and calmly.
Records all care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner, in the patients’ electronic health record.
May participate in interdisciplinary committees within the hospital that focus on patient care issues and needs.
Participates in unit and hospital-wide Performance Improvement Program.
May assist in developing policies, protocols, and procedures that support patient safety through the Nursing Practice Council.
Adheres to nursing regulations at local, state, and federal levels.
Performs other related duties assigned to meet the needs of the organization.
Fosters a professional and confidential relationship with staff, encouraging open communication, trust, and a high standard of professionalism within the department and organization.
