About The Position

The EMT-Paramedic / Emergency Department Technician III is responsible for providing advanced prehospital emergency care, in-hospital patient care, and registration support in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. This role combines the duties of an advanced-level EMS provider with those of an ED Technician and Registrar, ensuring safe, efficient, and compassionate care from initial contact through patient disposition. Responsibilities include advanced life support (ALS) interventions, patient assessments, assisting nursing and physician staff, operating and maintaining EMS vehicles and equipment, registering patients, and supporting departmental operations.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Current Illinois licensure as EMT-Paramedic.
Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS or ITLS certifications.
Current valid Illinois driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Basic computer proficiency.
Ability to perform duties during stressful situations.
Completion of departmental orientation/training within 4 weeks of hire.

Responsibilities

Report on time for assigned shifts and assigned location.
Perform daily ambulance checks and promptly report deficiencies to leadership.
Operate ambulances safely in accordance with Illinois law and hospital policy.
Perform complete patient assessments; evaluate signs and symptoms, and report findings to Medical Control via recorded ED line.
Provide ALS emergency care in accordance with protocols, policies, and licensure scope.
Perform and record vital signs; assist with triage and patient care requests within scope.
Maintain control of emergency scenes until relieved by appropriate authorities; ensure effective communication with all involved agencies.
Clean, restock, and return ambulance to service following calls.
Complete patient care reports, billing documentation, and enter charges into hospital systems.
Follow radio/cell procedures per SAMIC, IDPH, and FCC guidelines.
Greet and assist patients/families professionally and compassionately.
Register patients, verifying demographic, insurance, and medical information; obtain signatures on required forms and consents.
Accurately enter patient data into the EHR; maintain confidentiality per HIPAA.
Assist RN in carrying out care plans, delegated interventions, and patient procedures.
Perform triage under RN/physician direction; prioritize assessments.
Monitor and record vital signs, pain scores, height, and weight.
Assist with exams, specimen collection, diagnostic testing, and treatments.
Clean and maintain equipment; ensure devices are functional and ready for use.
Restock supplies; complete daily/weekly checks and remove expired items.
Safely assist in transporting patients within ED or to other departments.
Advocate for patient rights and provide culturally competent, age-appropriate care.
Maintain a safe environment by identifying and correcting hazards.
Demonstrate effective communication and professionalism with patients, families, staff, and external contacts.
Maintain required licensure, certifications, and continuing education; submit documentation as required.
Participate in departmental and hospital meetings, in-services, and training programs.
Maintain professional appearance and adhere to hospital dress and EMS uniform standards.
Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.
