Under the direction of the Supervisor of Assisted Living, the Registered Nurse assumes professional responsibility and accountability for a group of residents. The nurse provides and coordinates care focused on achieving residents’ optimal functional health through supportive and restorative care, health counseling, teaching, case finding, and referral. The role also requires understanding Masonicare’s and Masonicare Assisted Living’s Mission, Vision, and Values. The nurse performs initial and ongoing assessments, develops and evaluates resident service plans, implements physician orders, and coordinates continuity of care with other professionals. The role includes educating and counseling residents and families, documenting care, conducting supervisory visits of resident care assistants and other care staff, and contributing to professional education and development. Assessments are completed as needed and at least every 120 days, with prompt action when a resident’s condition changes. The nurse makes referrals when necessary, helps plan for clients who no longer require assisted living services, and ensures nursing services are available around the clock, potentially including on-call responsibilities. Nursing services include client and wellness teaching, health promotion, disease prevention, and medication administration or delegated supervision of self-administered medications.
