The Registered Nurse will provide ICU care to adult and geriatric patients. The unit has 24 rooms and an average daily census of 19, with a typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2–3; nurses should be prepared to take a third patient. Patients may have diagnoses including ARDS, sepsis, stroke, STEMI, DKA, post-operative complications, cardiogenic shock, gastrointestinal bleeding, COPD exacerbation, encephalopathy, liver failure, drug overdose, and ESRD on CRRT. The role includes floating within the facility and within the nurse’s scope of practice as needed. Weekend work is every other weekend unless specified elsewhere. Holiday coverage depends on how many major holidays occur during the assignment: one holiday requires working it; two require working both; and three require working two. Block scheduling is not guaranteed. Requests for time off are limited to seven days per contract. Full compliance is required to start on time; a missed compliance deadline results in a two-week start delay because orientation is held biweekly. Candidates undergo clinical review for fit and, if they pass and meet Piedmont guidelines, are sent to the manager for a final decision. Clinical screens are conducted case by case. Local candidates are accepted at the same rate. Non-billable orientation hours depend on contract length (for example, 8 hours for an 8-week assignment and 19 hours for a 19-week assignment).
