About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides individualized nursing care using the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, outcomes and planning, implementation, and evaluation. The role collaborates with inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement, and evaluate care, and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise and applicable age- and population-specific standards. The RN cares for patients across preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up, and is responsible for care planning and coordination, patient assessment and education, triage, and other nursing interventions. Practice must comply with the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules for the state of practice and licensure, as well as professional nursing standards and ethics. The position is in a busy 40-bed Level IV NICU with a dedicated micropreemie unit. The unit cares for a high-acuity, diverse neonatal population, including infants with prematurity, sepsis, respiratory distress, surgical emergencies, birth-related trauma, and other medical conditions. The NICU uses advanced capabilities and equipment, including synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation, pulmonary function testing, high-frequency ventilation, nitric oxide therapy, and whole-body cooling. The air/ground flight team transports approximately 30% of NICU admissions. Respiratory therapists staff the NICU, and Neonatal Nurse Practitioners are onsite 24/7. The staff mix includes Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, Neonatologists, RNs, Patient Care Technicians, and Formula Technicians. The schedule consists of 12-hour rotating day/night shifts, with 36 scheduled hours per week. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1–3 on all shifts. A $10,000 sign-on bonus is available to eligible applicants with a commitment. Additional night and weekend differential pay may apply. Applicable experience is reviewed and factored into a potential offer; growth opportunities are available within the position and Sanford.
