About The Position
The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver responsible for a group of patients during a designated time frame. The RN provides care using the nursing process, current nursing practices, technology, and financial and human resources within the institution’s philosophy. In this Labor & Delivery role, the RN cares for inpatient obstetric patients and participates in intrapartum care for patients and newborns during labor, delivery, and surgical delivery.
Requirements
- Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) within 30 days.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) within 1 year.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) within 1 year.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Associate's degree.
Responsibilities
- Perform responsibilities and duties required by the unit and scope of service.
- Implement procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice.
- Maintain accurate, current documentation of nursing care to support information-sharing across the healthcare team.
- Complete an initial assessment upon patient admission and develop a plan of care based on patient and family needs and unit standards.
- Implement the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures.
- Continuously evaluate and modify the plan of care as appropriate.
- Promote patient and employee safety by reporting or correcting safety hazards and incidents.
- Communicate directly and privately when necessary to resolve issues.
- Offer constructive feedback to support peers’ professional development and confer with colleagues to expand knowledge.
- Identify personal learning needs and take initiative to address them.
- Fulfill departmental competency requirements.
- Provide care to inpatient obstetric patients.
- Monitor fetal well-being.
- Administer medication specific to obstetric patients.
- Provide education specific to the obstetric population.
- Participate in intrapartum care of patients and newborns during labor, delivery, and surgical delivery.
