About The Position

This is a full-time (0.75 FTE) clinical registered nurse (RN) position at the Casey Eye Institute. The role involves providing preoperative and postoperative care to all patient populations undergoing ophthalmic procedures in the CEI OR. This includes neonates, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients with diagnoses ranging from routine to complex. Patient care is delivered to both in- and out-patients on a scheduled and emergent basis. Approximately 98% of patients are seen on an outpatient basis, with the remaining 2% being inpatients. The institute serves as a regional referral center and handles a majority of emergency cases, particularly for the retina service. The OHSU Clinical RN provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care, adhering to the Oregon Nurse Practice Act, ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and ANA Code of Ethics. The role emphasizes professional accountability, leadership in inter-professional collaboration, innovation, lifelong learning, and teamwork, while embodying the principles of a Culture of Safety.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree of Nursing awarded from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing for external hires required within 5 years of hire (candidate must be admitted to BSN program within 3 years of hire).
  • Greater than or equal to six months experience as an RN.
  • Successful completion of the TTP program necessitates attendance during all learning activities.
  • Current, unencumbered Oregon RN license.
  • Current BLS issued by American Heart Association or the Military Training Network required at time of hire.
  • Current ACLS issued by AHA required at time of hire.
  • Current PALS certification issued by AHA required at time of hire.
  • 1-2 years of nursing experience required.
  • BLS required.
  • Oregon RN license required.
  • Must be able to deal with competing needs and priorities of internal and external customers, including making correct judgments regarding ensuring safe conditions for patients, families, and other personnel.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
  • Team building and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, the ability to multitask and manage workflows with frequent interruptions and changes.
  • Ability to work independently and to serve as a positive and professional role model.
  • Must have demonstrated record of reliable attendance, punctuality and proven successful performance in past and present.

Nice To Haves

  • OR experience preferred.
  • BSN preferred to internal candidates.
  • More than 2 years current PACU or Critical Care /ED experience or in an ambulatory surgical setting.
  • Cross trained to intra-operative role.
  • Experience in an Ophthalmology surgical setting.
  • CPAN, CAPA, or any applicable nursing specialty certifications.

Responsibilities
