About The Position

The State of Ohio, Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is seeking a Registered Nurse to administer medication, perform treatments, assist with sick call, manage chronic care clinics, respond to emergencies, perform patient assessments, collect vital signs and specimens, prepare patients for release or transfer, ensure discharge medication orders are completed, participate in training, provide assistance to other healthcare staff, investigate and document problem areas, review shift reports, assist physicians with medical procedures, assume duties of other nurses during absences, counsel patients on healthcare maintenance and disease prevention, participate in quality assurance activities, provide training and work direction to other nursing staff, serve as a resource person for healthcare and security staff, provide orientation and training for new healthcare personnel, serve as the lead clinical authority on site in the absence of supervisors, participate in group programming and health initiatives, perform administrative duties, attend meetings, schedule multidisciplinary team meetings, assume duties of shift charge, and perform or assist with inventory and ordering of medical supplies. The starting pay is approximately $78,000 based on location/shift assignments. Ohio has joined the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), which allows an RN to hold one multistate license (MSL) in their primary state of residence while practicing in other compact states. Responsibilities

  • Administers medication (e.g., oral intramuscular and intravenous) and monitors patient medication compliance
  • Performs treatments and performs or assists with nurse’s sick call
  • Assists with doctor’s sick call
  • Performs or assist with nursing management of chronic care clinics
  • Responds to emergencies providing emergency care and cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Performs subjective and objective assessment of patients
  • Collects vital signs and timely documents all findings
  • Collects urine and/or other bodily fluid specimens
  • Prepares patients for release or transfer to other facilities (e.g., intrasystem or out to court) by reviewing patient care, transfer summaries or release summaries
  • Ensures discharge medication orders are completed and timely forwarded to pharmacy services
  • Participates in work-related training and institution training exercises.
