About The Position

The Gallup Indian Medical Center is a 99-bed hospital in Gallup New Mexico, on the border of the Navajo Reservation. Clinical specialties at the GIMC include internal medicine, cardiology, anesthesia, OB Slash GYN, general surgery, orthopedics, ophthalmology, ENT, radiology, pathology, pediatrics, psychiatry, emergency medicine, and urology. The workload at Gallup is one of the largest in the Indian Health Service with 250,000 outpatient encounters and 5800 inpatient admissions annually. GIMC is the largest staff of all Navajo area Client facilities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of clinical nursing experience, with a specialization in wound care.
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited college or university by the ACEN/CCNE in a nursing program with at least an associate's degree.
  • Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing Certification Board (WOCNCB) and Basic Life Support Certification.
  • All nurses shall possess a current, valid, unrestricted nursing license in the state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States, throughout the term of this contract.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients and develop plans of care for patients who are present at the clinic.
  • Screen patients and evaluate chief complaints.
  • Initiate treatment measures based on appropriate utilization of standing orders, certifications, and standards of care for the clinic.
  • Consult with attending provider and collaborate in developing a multi-disciplinary approach to provision of care.
  • Coordinate available resources to provide patients and family with social, age specific, emotional, educational, cultural, spiritual, and other identified healthcare support system needs.
  • Observe and assess patient clinical condition; collect and interpret data from the history and physical assessment.
  • Implement appropriate Nursing action based on interpretation of data and inform the provider of the patient's status.
  • Document all relevant patient healthcare treatments according to the organization's policies and procedures and in compliance with the organization and accrediting bodies healthcare standards of care.
  • Assess and apply wound dressing necessary to promote healing.
  • Provide adequate medical supply to assist in getting wound to heal.
  • Document accurate measurement length, wide and depth to ensure wound healing.
  • Maintain professional knowledge and proficiency in unit specific nursing knowledge and practice through continuing education.
  • Participate in development, updating, and evaluation of standards of care and quality improvement measures of the organization.
  • Maintain a professional caring attitude when dealing with patients, their families, hospital healthcare providers, and other departments.
