About The Position

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia is seeking a Registered Nurse for our Vascular Stepdown/Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) - 9K. This unit is a 24-bed stepdown intermediate care unit specializing in vascular surgery, telemetry, and renal/pancreas transplant patients. It is part of the Surgical Specialty Team at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. The unit cares for patients undergoing vascular surgeries such as aortic aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy, femoral bypass surgeries, and amputations. Nurses on this unit are specially trained and can obtain PCCN certification. All beds are monitored, and the unit provides an environment for extensive learning and skill development with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4. New graduate RNs are welcome and will participate in an 11-week Transition to Practice program, followed by a 6-month residency program.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
  • Registered nursing License (Required)
  • Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nursing License.
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)
  • Students in the process of completing an accredited nursing program.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
  • Utilize the standards of practice including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching and health promotion, and evaluation.
  • Adhere to the standards of professional performance including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health.
  • Provide nursing care to vascular surgery, telemetry, and renal/pancreas transplant patients.
  • Care for patients with telemetry needs.
  • Provide care to patients undergoing vascular surgeries including aortic aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy, femoral bypass surgeries and amputations.
