About The Position

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia is seeking a Registered Nurse for our Vascular Stepdown/Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) - 9K. This is a full-time position with 36 hours per week. The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas. The unit, 9 Kaufman, is a 24-bed stepdown intermediate care unit that specializes in vascular surgery, telemetry, and renal/pancreas transplant patients. It is part of the Surgical Specialty Team at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital (SNGH). Staffing is comprised of RNs, LPNs, NCPs (nursing care partners) and UAs (unit ambassadors) and CSAs (clinical support associates). Vascular surgeries include aortic aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy, femoral bypass surgeries, and amputations. Nurses on this unit are specially trained and can sit for the PCCN certification, with assistance to obtain it. All beds are monitored beds, and the unit cares for a variety of patients with telemetry needs, providing an environment conducive to extensive learning and skill development. The nurse to patient ratio is 1:4. New Grad RNs are welcome to apply and will participate in an 11-week Transition to Practice program, followed by a comprehensive 6-month residency program.

Requirements

Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
Registered nursing License (Required)
Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nursing License.
BLS required within 90 days of hire

Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)
Students in the process of completing an accredited nursing program.

Support new graduate nurses through a comprehensive residency program.
