Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring full-time Registered Nurses for our Vascular Stepdown Intermediate Care Unit (9K), home to Hampton Roads’ only Level I Trauma Center. Qualified candidates may be eligible for up to a $20,000 sign-on bonus and relocation assistance. The unit is a 24-bed stepdown intermediate care unit specializing in vascular surgery, telemetry, and renal/pancreas transplant care. It brings together RNs, LPNs, Nursing Care Partners, Unit Ambassadors, and Clinical Support Associates who work side by side to deliver exceptional patient care. Nurses on this unit will care for a diverse patient population and gain hands-on experience with complex vascular procedures such as aortic aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy, femoral bypass surgeries, and amputations. The unit also serves as an extension of our renal/pancreas transplant program, partnering closely with the outpatient transplant center to support patients through critical stages of care. Every bed is monitored, giving nurses the opportunity to strengthen telemetry skills while expanding their expertise in surgical specialty and transplant nursing. The unit welcomes new graduate nurses and experienced nurses moving into this specialty. The 11-week Transition to Practice program focuses on the orientation transition experience with intentional knowledge support and skill acquisition for practice in IMC areas. For new graduates, this TTP program is the start of a comprehensive 6-month residency program to support their transition to practice. The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
