About The Position

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring full-time Registered Nurses for our Vascular Stepdown Intermediate Care Unit (9K), home to Hampton Roads’ only Level I Trauma Center. Qualified candidates may be eligible for up to a $20,000 sign-on bonus and relocation assistance. This is a full-time position, 36 hours per week, with available shifts of 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m., requiring every other weekend and holiday rotation. The 9 Kaufman unit is a 24-bed stepdown intermediate care unit specializing in vascular surgery, telemetry, and renal/pancreas transplant care. The unit cares for a diverse patient population and provides experience with complex vascular procedures such as aortic aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy, femoral bypass surgeries, and amputations. It also supports patients through critical stages of care for the renal/pancreas transplant program. Every bed is monitored, allowing nurses to strengthen telemetry skills and expand expertise in surgical specialty and transplant nursing. The unit is committed to professional growth, offering specialized training and support for PCCN certification. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4. New graduate RNs are welcome and will participate in an 11-week Transition to Practice program, followed by a comprehensive 6-month residency program. Experienced nurses moving into this specialty are also encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Registered Nursing required
  • Registered Nurse license required
  • Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nurse license may be considered
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire
  • New graduate RNs or experienced RNs with no acute care experience are encouraged to apply

Nice To Haves

  • BSN or MSN preferred
  • Students completing an accredited nursing program may be considered
  • Prior RN experience preferred
  • Intermediate Care/Stepdown experience preferred
  • Strong candidates with related acute care, intermediate care, cardiac, stroke, or med/surg experience are encouraged to apply
