About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Transplant/VAD Cardiac Stepdown unit on the night shift. This role is full-time and involves applying the nursing process to plan and implement patient care, including education and continuum of care planning. The nurse will communicate patient information to the healthcare team, collaborate on patient goals, and evaluate progress. Professional growth is encouraged through learning activities aligned with Board of Nursing standards. The Cardiac Stepdown Unit (7 Medical Center East) is a high-acuity, fast-paced environment specializing in advanced heart failure, LVAD, and heart/lung transplant populations. It serves as a bridge between ICU and progressive care, managing adult patients with complex cardiac and post-surgical needs. Patient populations include LVAD patients, heart and lung transplant recipients, end-stage heart failure patients, post-cardiac surgery patients, intermittent acute cardiac stepdown and progressive care patients, and general cardiology patients with a wide variety of diagnoses. The unit offers high-acuity cardiology exposure, a team-centered culture, opportunities for growth and development, and the chance to build long-term patient relationships through complex care coordination.

Requirements

  • LIC-Registered Nurse - Licensure-Others
  • Relevant Work Experience
  • 1 year experience
  • Graduate of an approved discipline specific program

Nice To Haves

  • Inpatient cardiology, stepdown, or ICU experience
  • Adult acute care experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning.
  • Effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to the health care team.
  • Collaborates in establishing patient goals and evaluates progress to ensure effective outcomes.
  • Furthers professional growth by engaging in learning activities according to the Board of Nursing standards.
  • Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum.
  • Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnosis.
  • Continually utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patient's progress towards goals and applies appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.
  • Employs strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment.
