About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Transplant Surgical Stepdown unit at Vanderbilt University Hospital. This role involves applying the nursing process to plan and implement patient care, including education and continuum of care planning. The nurse will effectively communicate patient/family information to the healthcare team, collaborate on patient goals, and evaluate progress. The position also requires engaging in learning activities to further professional growth according to Board of Nursing standards. The unit cares for patients with disorders of the kidney, liver, and pancreas, including end-stage disease, surgical weight loss, peritoneal dialysis, and pre- to post-transplant care for kidney, liver, and pancreas recipients.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of RN experience
  • Nursing degree
  • State or Compact License (TN license within 60 days of getting TN address even if compact license)
  • Graduate of an approved discipline specific program

Responsibilities

  • Applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning.
  • Effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to the health care team.
  • Collaborates in establishing patient goals and evaluates progress to ensure effective outcomes.
  • Furthers professional growth by engaging in learning activities according to the Board of Nursing standards.
  • Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum.
  • Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnosis.
  • Continually utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patient's progress towards goals and applies appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.
  • Employs strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment.
