Sentara is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for Sentara Norfolk General Hospital's Surgical Unit, in Norfolk Virginia. This is a full-time, day shift position (7a-7p). The unit is a 42-bed specialized unit caring for adult surgical patients recovering from various surgeries including Urology, General Surgery, ENT, Plastic Surgery, GYN Surgery, Surgical Oncology, and Trauma Overflow. The unit also manages patients with renal disease, diabetes, COPD, and heart failure. It is a telemetry-monitored unit with an average patient stay of 3-4 days. Additionally, the unit has 6 beds for Epilepsy monitoring and serves as the Living Kidney Donor Transplant Unit. The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for performing a competent level of nursing care using the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation. Professional performance standards include ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health. The RN must possess clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards for specific clinical areas. All Direct Care RNs are required to have BLS within 90 days of hire.
