Sentara is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for Sentara Norfolk General Hospital's Surgical Unit, in Norfolk Virginia. This is a PRN position. The unit is a 42-bed unit specializing in the care of Adult Surgical Patients. Registered Nurses are assigned to PODs to assist patients recovering from surgeries including Urology, General Surgery, ENT, Plastic Surgery, GYN Surgery, Surgical Oncology, and Trauma Overflow. Patients on this unit may have renal disease, diabetes, COPD, and heart failure. This is a telemetry-monitored unit with an average patient stay of 3-4 days. The unit also has 6 beds for Epilepsy monitoring and is the Living Kidney Donor Transplant Unit. The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the nursing process. This includes assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching and health promotion, and evaluation. The RN also adheres to standards of professional performance including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
