About The Position

Sentara is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for Sentara Norfolk General Hospital's Surgical Unit, in Norfolk Virginia. This is a full-time night shift position. The unit is a 42-bed unit specializing in the care of Adult Surgical Patients, with Registered Nurses assigned to PODs to assist patients recovering from surgeries including Urology, General Surgery, ENT, Plastic Surgery, GYN Surgery, Surgical Oncology, and Trauma Overflow. Patients on this unit may have renal disease, diabetes, COPD, and heart failure. This is a telemetry-monitored unit with an average patient stay of 3-4 days. The unit also has 6 beds for Epilepsy monitoring and is the Living Kidney Donor Transplant Unit. The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.

Requirements

  • RN Degree REQUIRED
  • Virginia RN License REQUIRED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required within 90-days of hire

  • Prior RN experience PREFERRED
