About The Position

This position involves providing bedside nursing care in a Surgical Intensive Care Unit. The Registered Nurse collaborates with physicians to develop and implement patient care plans, ensuring patients return to optimal health. Responsibilities include carrying out medical orders, delegating tasks to and overseeing ancillary staff, and evaluating the effectiveness of the care plan. The role also emphasizes leadership in integrating evidence-based practice, delegation, patient teaching, and professional growth. The nurse will manage critical care for patients with hemodynamic and respiratory instability, including mechanical ventilation, and administer high-risk medications. Active participation in unit quality measures and promoting a compassionate, therapeutic environment are also key aspects of the role.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and holding a current license to practice in the state of Michigan.
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross.
  • Must satisfactorily complete ACLS course and Critical Care course within one year of hire/transfer.
  • Must satisfactorily complete first available Basic Dysrhythmia course.

Nice To Haves

  • Six-month experience in acute care setting or equivalent.
  • Critical Care Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities

  • Integrates evidence-based knowledge into practice.
  • Delegates and coordinates tasks and assignments of nursing care.
  • Facilitates/participates in patient conferences.
  • Identifies and provides the means to meet patients’ ongoing and discharge/transfer teaching needs by communicating with the appropriate resource persons and attending discharge/transfer planning conferences.
  • Assumes the responsibility for professional growth by seeking out educational opportunities and utilizing programs in the hospital or elsewhere in the community.
  • Teaches and/or guides professional and ancillary personnel.
  • Precepts/mentors new employees and students.
  • Functions as a team leader to ensure proper patient placement and delegation of assignments.
  • Effectively manages the critical care of the patient with hemodynamic monitoring.
  • Accurately and effectively administers high risk medications.
  • Effectively monitors and manages the care of the patient with hemodynamic instability.
  • Effectively monitors and manages the care of the patient with respiratory instability including mechanical ventilation.
  • Actively participates in unit quality measures.
  • Incorporates Evidence Based Practice in patient care.
  • Promotes compassion and a therapeutic environment.
  • Performs other related duties as required and directed.
