The Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) at Denver Health is a vital part of the Level I Trauma Center, serving as a safety net and tertiary care center for the region. This 23-bed unit is equipped with advanced technology and emergency equipment to provide comprehensive care to critically ill and injured patients, primarily those aged 15 and older. The patient population is largely comprised of individuals who have experienced trauma, including injuries from motor vehicle accidents, bicycle incidents, ski accidents, pedestrian impacts, traumatic brain injuries, falls, and violent crimes. The SICU maintains a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2, with the most critical patients receiving 1:1 care.
