About The Position

In this role you will be: Assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and recording patient care in accordance with the medical and nursing plans of care. Participating in preoperative patient teaching and education. Coordinating preoperative care with surgeons’ offices, consulting physicians, primary care physicians, anesthesia providers, and same day surgery nursing staff. Coordinating discharge planning in conjunction with other members of the health team. Directing and assisting other healthcare providers including nursing students. Providing leadership so that standards of professional nursing practice are maintained in the clinical setting. Demonstrating the ability to function as a charge nurse as assigned. Demonstrating knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the span of life. Identifying each patient’s age-specific needs and providing appropriate care for the pediatric, adolescent, or adult patient. Utilizing interpersonal communication skills to effectively communicate with patients, family, and other members of the healthcare team. Utilizing the hospital computer system and preoperative computer program. Reviewing preoperative labs, test results, and determine if further action is necessary.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Licensed as a registered nurse in Pennsylvania
  • BLS certification required or obtained within 1 month of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Recent ACU experience preferred
  • Recent clinical experience in pre-surgical testing unit or fast-paced outpatient surgery center preferred
  • Preoperative patient education including working knowledge of SCIP protocol, preoperative medication recommendations, testing requirements, etc. for surgical patients preferred
