This role involves providing comprehensive patient care within a surgical home setting. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting patient care according to established medical and nursing plans. The position also entails participating in preoperative patient teaching and education, coordinating preoperative care with various healthcare providers and offices, and managing discharge planning in collaboration with the health team. The nurse will also direct and assist other healthcare providers, including nursing students, and provide leadership to maintain professional nursing standards. Additional duties include functioning as a charge nurse as assigned, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan, and providing age-specific care for pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients. Effective communication with patients, families, and the healthcare team is essential, as is the utilization of the hospital computer system and preoperative computer programs. Reviewing preoperative labs and test results to determine necessary actions is also a key part of the role.
