About The Position

The Registered Nurse Supervisor at the Department of Corrections’ State Correctional Institution at Mercer supervises, directs, and provides clinical oversight for nursing services. The role leads nursing staff and supports care for the inmate population while maintaining high clinical standards.

The position is full-time, 40 hours per week. The institution staffs two shifts: 6:00 AM–2:30 PM and 2:00 PM–10:30 PM. Work hours are to be determined, and alternative schedules may be available depending on operational needs. Telework is not available. Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania is required.

Requirements

• Three years of experience as a Registered Nurse (Commonwealth or equivalent Federal Government job title), or four years of professional nursing experience providing care and treatment for individuals with a mental or physical injury or illness and/or a developmental disability.
• Active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
• If holding an active temporary practice permit, obtain Registered Nurse licensure within the one-year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
• Successfully complete basic training in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania.
• Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
• Be able to perform the essential job functions.

Responsibilities

• Oversee nursing staff, provide training, schedule coverage, and guide daily operations.
• Assist with patient assessments, treatments, medication administration, and patient education.
• Respond to medical emergencies, provide first aid, and support clinical decision-making.
• Document care, review medical records, and prepare reports for patient movement or release.
• Maintain inventory, sterilize equipment, and ensure treatment areas remain stocked.
• Attend training, stay current on policies, and maintain required job skills.
