About The Position

Dodge County is seeking a Registered Nurse Supervisor for part-time, 3rd shift and on-call positions. This role is responsible for providing leadership in attracting, retaining, and developing an engaged workforce to deliver superior services to residents and families. The supervisor will direct and manage nursing staff, provide training and ongoing development, assign tasks, review work, and prepare performance evaluations. They will also be involved in staff coaching and counseling, auditing nursing staff practices, and ensuring procedures are followed. The position involves directing resident care, supervising staff providing direct care, including medication administration, treatments, resident assessments, and collaboration with healthcare providers and the interdisciplinary team. The supervisor will review charting daily, monitor for infectious processes, ensure appropriate infection control measures are taken, and log infections. They will communicate updates and changes in condition to residents, families, and guardians, and provide necessary education. The role includes accompanying physicians on rounds, assisting with examinations and treatments, reviewing care plans, transcribing orders, and informing residents and physicians about laboratory results and current conditions. Planning and assisting with discharge instructions, follow-up appointments, and therapy instructions are also key responsibilities. The supervisor will assist with staffing various units, make adjustments as needed, and answer phone calls. Maintaining contact with the pharmacy, managing narcotics records, and supervising resident appointment and transportation scheduling are also part of the role. Additionally, the Registered Nurse Supervisor will perform Staff Nurse duties, monitor incident reports, investigations, and safety programs, and oversee infection control initiatives. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the principles, standards, practices, and techniques of Skilled nursing.
  • Knowledge of the dangers inherent in and the precautions to be taken in the use of drugs and other medication.
  • Knowledge of local and state rules, regulations, procedures and policies pertaining to nursing services.
  • Ability to assign and supervise the work of professional and nonprofessional personnel and to instruct them in practices and techniques.
  • Ability to accurately maintain patient medical records and prepare reports.
  • Knowledge of electronic records systems.
  • Knowledge of PPE and its proper use for personal safety measures.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all resident care information and assure resident rights and privacy are protected at all times per HIPAA.
  • Knowledge of chemicals used in housekeeping and laundry services including hazardous laundry chemicals and isolation procedures.
  • Ability to create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth and personal interest as well as a clean environment.
  • Ability to work tactfully and cooperatively with residents, families, visitors, and entire staff throughout the organization.
  • Ability to verbally communicate with residents, families, the public, and other members of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership in attracting, retaining and developing an engaged workforce in the delivery of superior services to residents and families.
  • Directs the work of and manages the assigned nursing staff.
  • Provides training, instructions, and ongoing training needs.
  • Assigns tasks, reviews work, and prepares performance evaluations.
  • Provides staff coaching/counseling.
  • Audits nursing staff; ensures procedures are followed; provides follow-up and education as needed.
  • Directs resident care and supervision of staff providing direct care, including passing medications, providing treatments, assessing residents, collaborating with outside healthcare providers and interdisciplinary team; advising/instructing Nurses, Aides, dietary workers, and Household Information Assistants regarding resident care.
  • Reviews charting daily – surveilling for potential infectious processes; ensures appropriate measures/precautions are taken to prevent spread of infections; logs infections.
  • Provides family, resident, and/or guardians with updates, changes, in condition and instruction or education.
  • Accompanies physicians on rounds and assists with examinations and treatments; reviews patients care plan; transcribes new orders; informs residents and physicians regarding laboratory results, current conditions, etc.
