The Supervisor will have 24/7 accountability for the Emergency Department. The Supervisor plans, organizes, and directs nursing practice for areas of responsibility. This role requires strong problem-solving abilities in complex situations and the ability to work within budget and productivity targets. The Supervisor participates in and supports plans for staff selection, evaluation, orientation, continued education, development, competency evaluation, and scheduling based on patient acuity. They support and partner with the Manager/Clinical Leader to ensure staff knowledge, skills, and behaviors align with unit goals. Outstanding relationship-building skills, including strong physician relationship skills, are essential. The role is patient-focused with a strong commitment to delivering the highest levels of quality, safety, and customer service, and is accountable for achieving patient satisfaction action plans. The Supervisor supports process improvement in operations, quality, and organizational change, and has knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements. Effective and persuasive communication, participation in hospital and department committees, and demonstrated ability in developing and mentoring staff are key. The Supervisor leads by example, demonstrating professional behavior, personal and professional accountability, and a passion for nursing. They serve as a role model and coach for Critical Moments of Service Standards and service recovery, and participate in performance improvement activities. Critical thinking regarding patient safety and experience, and appropriate escalation to the chain of command, are utilized. The role supports the professional nurse continuum and nursing clinical ladder for RNs (CARE).
