About The Position

The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) is seeking a Registered Nurse Supervisor A to oversee clinical consultation activities related to the behavioral health needs of children involved with Child Welfare. This includes addressing psychiatric instability, trauma-related conditions, developmental concerns, and substance use. The role involves providing advanced behavioral health consultation and second-line clinical oversight for high-risk and complex cases, planning and directing behavioral health nursing services, and supervising Behavioral Health Nurses and related staff. The position also serves as a liaison between DCFS and the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH), including the Office of Behavioral Health (OBH), as well as Managed Care Organizations and behavioral health providers. Additionally, the role assists in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and clinical protocols.

Requirements

  • Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse.
  • Three years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR
  • A bachelor's degree in nursing plus two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR
  • A master's degree in nursing or public health plus two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR
  • A doctorate in nursing or public health plus one year of experience as a licensed registered nurse.
  • Active Louisiana RN license (or compact/multi-state license recognized by Louisiana) is required and must be maintained.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required due to travel across multiple regions.

Responsibilities

  • Provides advanced behavioral health consultation and second-line clinical oversight for high-risk and complex cases.
  • Plans and directs behavioral health nursing services across assigned regions, including review of psychiatric evaluations, treatment plans, and medication regimens.
  • Provides direct and functional supervision of Behavioral Health Nurses and related staff.
  • Assigns and reviews work, supports case triage and workload distribution, and evaluates staff performance to ensure quality and consistency of services.
  • Serves as the operational liaison between DCFS and the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH), including the Office of Behavioral Health (OBH), as well as Managed Care Organizations and behavioral health providers.
  • Assists in the development of policies, procedures, and clinical protocols and is responsible for implementation and interpretation within behavioral health nursing operations.
