About The Position

This is a Cardiac PCU RN position requiring 2 years of experience. The unit does not accept first-time travelers. Floating to like units is required, and travelers must be flexible. Every other weekend is required. The role involves caring for patients with various cardiac conditions including surgical tele experience, open heart surgery and vascular (groin) procedures, radial band management, IV skills, and telemetry. Experience with VAD and TAVR is optional. Certifications required include ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS. Epic experience is a mandatory requirement. The unit specializes in Cardiac PCU, myocardial infarction, rule out MI, primary arrhythmias, pre/post open-heart surgery patients, vascular surgery patients, coronary artery disease, heart failure, pre/post cath lab with or without interventions, stroke patients with cardiac involvement, and specialized structural heart support (VAD, TVAR, etc.). Experience with chest tubes and sternal precautions is also necessary. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 across the board, potentially 1:5 at midnight. Key procedures and patient care include Breathing Treatments, Chest Tube Set-up/Care, CPAP/BiPap, Trach Care, Sternal Precautions, Blood/Blood Products Administration, Cardioversion/Defibrillation, Epicardial Pacer Management, LVAD, Open Heart 24-28 hours Post-Op, and Telemetry Interpretation - Dysrhythmia Interpretation and management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care for Cardiac PCU patients
  • Manage patients with myocardial infarction, rule out MI, primary arrhythmias, pre/post open-heart surgery, vascular surgery, coronary artery disease, and heart failure
  • Care for pre/post cath lab patients with or without interventions
  • Manage stroke patients with cardiac involvement
  • Provide specialized structural heart support (VAD, TVAR, etc.)
  • Administer Breathing Treatments
  • Perform Chest Tube Set-up/Care
  • Manage CPAP/BiPap
  • Provide Trach Care
  • Adhere to Sternal Precautions
  • Administer Blood/Blood Products
  • Perform Cardioversion/Defibrillation
  • Manage Epicardial Pacers
  • Manage LVAD
  • Provide post-operative care for Open Heart patients (24-28 hours)
  • Interpret and manage telemetry data, including dysrhythmias
  • Float to like units as needed
  • Work every other weekend
