Requirements

Valid Tennessee Registered Nurse (RN) license and/or compact RN license.
Graduation from an accredited Registered Nurse (RN) program.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
Minimum of two years of experience in clinic-based nursing.
Computer proficiency, including a minimum keyboarding speed of 40 words per minute (WPM) with a high degree of accuracy.
Clear verbal and written communication skills, including professional telephone etiquette.
Must be able to stand for 8 to 10 hours a day
Requires regular walking, bending, pushing, pulling and lifting
Must be able to lift at least 50lbs
Must be able to assist patients with transfers from chair to wheelchair, to exam tables, and back to wheelchair/chair
Must be able to assist patient with turning/positioning on exam table
Must be able to push patient in wheelchair
Must be able to manipulate objects—reaching, grasping, handling
Must exhibit good communication skills—understand, respond and translate into action
Ability to delineate between numeric numbers

Nice To Haves

Electronic health record (EHR) experience, with familiarity with EPIC preferred.
Prior experience in a large, multi-specialty physician practice strongly preferred.
Prior experience precepting, mentoring, or training new clinical staff preferred.

Responsibilities

Collect and document patient data across all encounter types (in-person, phone, EPIC portal) — including chief complaint, vitals, allergies, medications, immunizations, and health history; complete comprehensive health assessments annually as indicated.
Triage patients appropriately; notify physician or provider of abnormal findings, pending lab results, or urgent concerns in a timely manner; administer CPR as needed.
Prepare and administer medications, immunizations, allergy serum, treatments, and tests per physician order and established protocol; accurately document dosages, reactions, and side effects.
Conduct testing and correctly collect, label, and handle specimens and cultures; dispose of infectious and hazardous waste per infection control standards.
Operate and troubleshoot clinical equipment; maintain stocked, clean, and sterile exam rooms.
Assist physicians with procedures; provide patient education, discharge instructions, and wound care as directed.
Manage medications — call in/e-scribe prescriptions, document sample medications, remove expired stock, and ensure secure storage of all medications and supplies.
Responsible for managing EPIC work queues.
Ensure sterile instrument processing is completed per protocol and manufacturer recommendations; maintain quality control checklists.
Schedule appointments with physicians and specialists; obtain consents, pre-certifications, prior authorizations, and referrals in advance; track diagnostic studies and specialist visits to ensure follow-through.
Answer phones and return all calls/voicemails within 24 hours; complete required HMA forms accurately and timely.
Maintain an orderly work area; monitor and reorder supplies proactively; maintain copier and fax equipment.
Attend and actively participate in clinic meetings, huddles, and required training to stay current on workflow changes and continue professional development.
Serve as a clinical training resource and informal preceptor for RN I staff and newly hired nurses, sharing clinical knowledge and best practices as needed.
Precept and orient new nursing staff on clinic workflows, clinical procedures, and EHR documentation; provide constructive feedback to support successful onboarding.
Support clinical & patient excellence by creating a compassionate, responsive, and high-quality patient experience in every interaction.
Provide exceptional customer service by treating patients, visitors, providers, and coworkers with professionalism, courtesy, respect, and responsiveness while supporting a positive patient experience and HMA’s mission and values.
