About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) on the night shift. Located in Nashville, Tennessee, VUMC is a leading institution in patient care, education, and research. The SICU is a 23-bed unit caring for critically ill surgical patients, including those undergoing emergency general surgery, liver transplants, vascular surgery, thoracic surgery, otolaryngology surgery, orthopaedics, and patients with multisystem organ failure and sepsis. The role involves applying the nursing process to plan and implement patient care, including education and continuum of care planning, effective communication with the healthcare team, and collaboration in setting and evaluating patient goals. The position also emphasizes professional growth through continuous learning as per Board of Nursing standards.

Requirements

At least 1 year of RN experience
Nursing degree
State or Compact License (TN license within 60 days of getting TN address even if compact license)
Graduate of an approved discipline specific program

Responsibilities

Applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning.
Effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to the health care team.
Collaborates in establishing patient goals and evaluates progress to ensure effective outcomes.
Furthers professional growth by engaging in learning activities according to the Board of Nursing standards.
Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum.
Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnosis.
Continually utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patient's progress towards goals and applies appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.
Employs strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment.
