Emergency Department Short Stay Unit (Full-Time, Days – 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM EST): Provides time-limited, observation-based care for patients requiring further evaluation, stabilization, or treatment beyond standard ED care but not a full inpatient admission. Focuses on efficient diagnostics, clinical management, and safe discharge within 24–48 hours. The Clinical Nurse reflects the mission, vision, and values of Indiana University Health, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. The registered professional clinical nurse (RN) is accountable and responsible for the provision and coordination of competent, evidence-based care along the care continuum, which includes assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The clinical nurse participates in decision-making, teaching, mentoring, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to advance the patient plan of care, achieve outcomes and enhance operational efficiency. The nurse adheres to the ANA Scope and Standards of Professional Nursing and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of experience (less than 1 year requires application through a separate pipeline requisition).
  • Associates of Nursing (ASN).
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program. (Exceptions: Candidates with more than two years of acute care experience may be considered, subject to CNO approval).
  • Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Responsibilities
