About The Position

Over 185 MESD employees work in School Health Services, ensuring student safety by providing high-standard nursing care in school and community settings to support educational potential. The team includes nurses, care coordinators, health educators, health assistants, administrative staff, and screening and prevention specialists who provide and coordinate specialized health services for students in Multnomah and Clackamas County. MESD is committed to employee and community wellness, advocacy for students and families, collaboration with health systems, research for population health in schools, and evidence-based practice. The Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model is supported, integrating education and health for child development. This position is for the 2026-2027 school year, with applications reviewed as positions become available. An Oregon RN license is required before the start date. The salary reflects the 2025-2026 Salary Schedule.

Requirements

  • Valid Oregon Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Oregon RN license is required prior to the start date.
  • Basic knowledge of applicable laws, nursing practice regulations, and standards.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Russian at a level meeting District standards (Intermediate-High/Level 6 composite or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated organizational, leadership, and time management skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle available for use on the job.
  • Ability to become proficient in navigating internal and external data systems, including data entry and report production pertinent to the delivery of school health services.
  • Ability to physically perform assigned duties.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently with a high degree of accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail.
  • Experience in the use of computer systems.
  • Current certification in CPR.
  • Any combination of education and experience that would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform the job.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual or multilingual in Russian and/or additional languages reflective of the communities served.
  • Employees assigned to a bilingual differential position must meet District language proficiency requirements and provide language support for students, families, and staff as part of their assigned duties.
  • Experience in an educational/school setting.
  • Experience working with Russian-speaking students, families, and communities.
  • Deep expertise and extensive experience engaging with Asian and Asian American communities.
  • Strong understanding of cultural practices, values, and communication styles within Russian-speaking communities.
  • Ability to provide specific examples of meaningful, direct engagement with individuals and families who identify as part of these communities.
  • Preferred BSN or BS in a health-related field.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive health services to students and school communities.
  • Provide culturally responsive and linguistically appropriate health services to Russian-speaking students and families to support equitable access to school health services.
  • Implement the nursing process to plan and provide individualized nursing care, including nursing delegation and training for emergencies.
  • Manage school health services, including health screenings, communicable disease control, health education, and environmental monitoring.
  • Apply evidence-based knowledge and clinical competencies, including appropriate technology use and effective service delivery.
  • Collaborate with students, families, school staff, colleagues, and community professionals, including supervisors, in delivering school health services.
  • Facilitate access to and utilization of resources for students, families, and schools to meet safety, health, and education needs.
  • Participate in the development and improvement of quality nursing practice.
  • Adhere to the rules and procedures of the licensing agency.
  • Maintain a satisfactory job attendance record.
  • Use personal safety techniques to avoid exposure and injury.
  • Provide oral and written communication in Russian to students, families, and staff regarding health services, medical care plans, emergency procedures, and health education.
  • Translate and/or interpret health-related information in Russian consistent with the scope of nursing practice.
  • Support culturally and linguistically relevant knowledge of Russian-speaking communities in service delivery.
  • Regularly utilize Russian language skills as part of assigned duties to meet student and family needs.
