Provides clinical direction for all aspects of patient care in an acute inpatient setting, fostering patient- and family-centered care. Demonstrates clinical competency using evidence-based practices and research throughout the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and outcomes. Incorporates safety protocols, cost containment, and quality improvement into care, and responds to patient, unit, and organizational priorities. Follows organizational compliance requirements and policies, including licensure renewal, assigned training, employee health screenings, time and attendance, dress code, confidentiality, infection control, and medication administration. Understands regulatory agency requirements and provides care within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act. The acute inpatient setting may require weekend, holiday, and on-call work. The RN assesses patients, develops and updates individualized plans of care in collaboration with patients and families and the interdisciplinary healthcare team, provides direct care, delegates tasks appropriately, monitors care quality and patient safety, and evaluates outcomes. The RN also identifies and addresses learning needs, communicates relevant information across the care continuum, maintains professional competency and licensure, and advocates for and coordinates patient care. This is a non-management position reporting to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.
