About The Position

This position involves administering nursing care to designated patients under the direction and supervision of a provider. The role requires performing a variety of direct and indirect patient care duties utilizing the nursing process. The nurse will participate in Quality Improvement initiatives, promote good public relations for the nursing department/hospital, and implement, transcribe, and/or countersign physician’s orders. A key responsibility is the competent administration of medications, understanding their action, mode of administration, side effects, and contraindications. The role also includes assisting physicians with diagnostic tests and procedures, assisting with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers, and functioning effectively as a team leader. The nurse will provide leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary departments and other patient care team members, performing core and unit-specific clinical skills, and demonstrating the ability to gather clinical data and communicate it to healthcare providers for sound clinical decision-making. Additionally, the nurse will utilize nursing assessment skills to participate in planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care, and use the nursing process to identify various patient needs including biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, discharge planning, spiritual, and educational needs. Patient and family teaching is also a component of this role, as is calling/ordering medications for patients and assisting in chart compilation and electronic documentation.

Requirements

Graduate from an approved school of practical nursing.
BLS training.
Possess current licensure by Missouri State Board of Nursing.

Nice To Haves

I.V. Therapy Certification preferred.
Previous nursing experience preferred.
