This position provides independent care for a specific patient population, serving as a clinical resource for others. The role involves integrating evidence into practice and functioning effectively in unit-specific roles. The Registered Nurse (RN) is accountable to patients, families, and peers for the processes and outcomes of care, and to the nurse manager for overall work performance. This role also advances clinical practice on the unit, consistently integrating evidence and using it as a foundation for unit practice. The nurse will lead efforts to improve Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators (NSQI) and Key Performance Quality Indicators, developing and implementing action plans. They will lead performance improvement initiatives, monitor patient and unit safety standards, and coach other nurses. Compliance with regulatory activities and leadership in developing Performance Improvement, Evidence Based Practice, or research at the unit level are also key aspects of this role. The nurse will perform charge duties, oversee unit orientation, serve as a liaison for various departments, and mentor other nurses. Role modeling and holding peers accountable for Health Work Environment guidelines are expected. Additionally, the nurse will orient nurses to the unit's governance structure and councils, serve as an expert preceptor, coach, and mentor, and lead unit processes for developing ancillary personnel skills. Patient safety is paramount, requiring the nurse to ensure safety in job functions, participate in safety initiatives, correct observed risks, report adverse events, and identify potential risks in processes and procedures.
