Registered Nurse (RN) -Post Surgical
About The Position
This is a full-time Registered Nurse position on a 26-bed post-operative surgical unit with 16 telemetry beds. The unit is fast-paced and cares for patients with Gastroenterology, Urology, Gynecology, and Plastic Surgery needs. Patients often require management of abdominal drains, wound VACS, PCA pumps, epidurals, and tube feedings. Approximately 75% of patients are admitted from the PACU or step down from the Surgical ICU. The unit is suitable for experienced Med-Surg nurses looking to advance their skills and for new graduate nurses seeking a foundation for future roles in ICU, ED, OR, or as an NP. The unit is a top performer in quality outcomes and has a high rate of certified nurses. Shared Governance is a key part of the unit's culture, giving nurses and nursing assistants a voice in daily operations. The unit received top team member engagement scores in 2021.
Requirements
- Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association
Responsibilities
- Manages the care of 4-5 patients on day and PM shifts and 5-6 patients on the night shift.
- Manages patients on drips such as insulin, ketamine, dobutamine, heparin, angiomax, etc.
- Provides and coordinates comprehensive patient care through the nursing process.
- Delivers safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
- Uses evidence-based practice, clinical decision making, compassion, and communication skills.
- Leads efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience across the continuum.
