About The Position

The 5 North unit is a 26-bed General Surgery specialty unit within Atrium Health Mercy, a Planetree Designated facility. This Med-Surg Unit handles a high volume of surgical patients, specializing in elective bariatric weight loss surgery, general surgery (appendectomies, cholecystectomies, small bowel obstructions), foot and ankle orthopedic surgery, and urology surgery. Nurses on this unit will gain experience with various drains, wound vacs, central lines, NGT, DHT, and other surgical procedures. Atrium Health Mercy, a 196-bed facility, is committed to patient-centered care, focusing on partnership, evidence-based improvement, and engagement. It is a full-service community hospital known for its specialized care in geriatrics, complex foot and ankle surgery, hip and knee surgery, bariatric surgery, and women's pelvic health. The hospital holds Magnet designation for Nursing Excellence and is a Planetree designated patient-centered hospital, emphasizing patient empowerment, mind-body-spirit healing, patient-directed care, and safety through active patient involvement.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Part-time status, 24 hours per week.
  • Availability for Weekend Nights: 7p-7a Saturday and Sunday.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Med-Surg nursing.
  • Experience with bariatric, general, orthopedic (foot and ankle), and urology surgeries.
  • Proficiency in managing drains, wound vacs, central lines, NGT, and DHT.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care on a 26-bed General Surgery specialty unit.
  • Manage patients undergoing elective bariatric weight loss surgery, general surgery, foot and ankle ortho surgery, and urology surgery.
  • Gain experience in managing drains of all kinds, wound vacs, central lines, NGT, DHT, and other surgical procedures.
