About The Position

Registered Nurse (RN) Physician Practice Job Summary: Provides patient care at Roper St. Francis Health Care sites, as assigned, using approved protocols. Facilitate the timely communication of clinical advice to patients electronically or by phone as directed by practice providers. Ensure all needed medical records are available to care teams and providers prior to patient’s office visit. Coordinate with other team members to provide exceptional patient service. The RN will receive training on the Electronic Health Record system (EHR). Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Physician Office Job Summary: To provide nursing care for physician practice patients following established standards and practices in accordance with the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act. To apply knowledge of patient care tasks and techniques to provide nursing care. Provide patient care in outpatient physician practice under the direction of the practicing MD, APP or RN. Responsible for staging patients in preparation to see providers. Update all patient medications in the medication history at each visit. Perform patient related tasks as directed by practice providers. Facilitate the timely communication of clinical advice to patients electronically or by phone as directed by practice providers. Ensure all needed medical records are available to care team and providers prior to patient’s office visit. Coordinate with other team members to provide exceptional patient service. The LPN should be proficient with HPP (the practice management software) and eClinical Works (the EHR). Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position The Medical Assistant Certified is a multi-skilled clinical professional that provides indirect and/or direct patient care within the scope of practice and in alignment with the standards of excellence and quality. Under the direction of the provider, the Medical Assistant contributes to the completion of the patient’s chief complaint (including, but not limited, to respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, height, weight, and temperature), documents patient/family needs, participates in planning and implementing care for patients, and administers ordered medications (oral, injection, topically, etc.) within the Medical Assisting scope and state guidelines.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
  • One to two years RN experience, preferable.
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of South Carolina or holds a current compact/multi-state license as a Registered Nurse in a recognized NCSBN Compact State and is not a permanent resident of SC.
  • Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card.
  • Requires the ability to use clinical equipment including EKG machine, spirometer, Hemocue, Pulse Oxymeter.
  • Must have basic knowledge of medication policy and procedure and effectively utilize assessment skills for triage and patient care.
  • Must be able to assist physician with outpatient office procedures.
  • Strong patient-centered focus.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and the public.
  • Ability to organize and manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to problem solve and show good judgment.

  • Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures to provide patient care.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining records.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
  • Active Medical Assisting certification from one of the following (required): Certified Medical Assistant (CMA); American Association of Medical Assisting Registered Medical Assistant (RMA); American Medical Technologists Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA); National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Nationally Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA); National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA); National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) (not accepted in the state of South Carolina)
  • BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH)
  • High School/GED (required)
  • In South Carolina (completion of one of the below is required) An accredited Medical assistant post-secondary education program A Career and technical education health sciences program approved by the South Carolina Department of Education A medical assisting program provided by a branch of the United States military A Medical assisting United States Department of Labor approved Registered Apprenticeship program A Training program that is delivered, in whole or in part, by a health care employer that aligns to a nationally accredited certification exam

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant post-secondary education program (preferred in all states except South Carolina)
  • Completion of externship or clinical lab training (preferred)
  • 1 year of recent Medical Assisting experience (preferred)
