About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the PCU (Progressive Care Unit) - Part-Time, 7A position at Texas Health Southwest will deliver care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. This role incorporates age-specific safety and infection control measures, initiates actions to meet patient information needs, and maintains continuity of patient care across shifts, hospitals, and transfers. The department is a 36-bed PCU with a nurse/patient ratio of 1:4 depending on acuity, serving intermediate/telemetry level of care for post-acute stroke, general medical, endocrine, GI/renal patients. This is a MAGNET facility, Level III Trauma Center, Primary Stroke center, and Stroke/Neuro designated unit.

Requirements

Nursing Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing required
Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire
BCLS – prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly
ACLS – within 90 days of hire
CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training – within 90 days of hire
NIHSS – within 90 days of hire
1-year experience as a registered nurse or completion of an RN residency program required
In addition to the required qualifications, a successful RN will demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
The professional nurse exhibits understanding of basic human needs.
The professional nurse demonstrates recognition and understanding of patient’s affiliations.

Responsibilities

Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process: assesses the patient, plans the care of the patient, intervenes as appropriate, evaluates the effectiveness of interventions.
Incorporates age specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information.
Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers.
Delivery of high quality of patient care through nursing education, nursing research and innovations in nursing practice.
