About The Position

This Registered Nurse (RN) position is in the 36-bed PCU Department at Texas Health Southwest, a MAGNET facility and Level III Trauma Center with a Primary Stroke center and Stroke designated unit. The department has a Nurse/Patient Ratio of 1:4 depending on acuity and serves a patient population requiring intermediate/telemetry level of care for post-acute stroke, general medical, endocrine GI/renal patients. The role offers self-scheduling for work/life balance and excellent opportunities for educational and career growth, including leadership advancement.

Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred
  • Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire
  • BCLS – prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly
  • ACLS – within 90 days of hire
  • CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training – within 90 days of hire
  • NIHSS – within 90 days of hire
  • 1-year experience as a registered nurse or completion of an RN residency program required
  • Demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
  • The professional nurse exhibits understanding of basic human needs.
  • The professional nurse demonstrates recognition and understanding of patient’s affiliations.

Nice To Haves

  • PCU experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process: assesses the patient, plans the care of the patient, intervenes as appropriate, evaluates the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Incorporates age specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
  • Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information.
  • Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers.
