About The Position

Responsible for pacemaker/ICD transtelephonic checks and more advanced pacer/ICD interrogations. This role involves maintaining professional and technical knowledge, assuring quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards, protecting patients and employees through infection-control policies, documenting patient care services, and maintaining continuity among nursing teams. The nurse will identify patient care requirements, establish a compassionate environment, promote patient independence, maintain a safe and clean working environment, resolve patient problems, and maintain cooperative relationships with healthcare teams. Additionally, the role ensures the operation of equipment, maintains nursing supplies inventory, and performs clerical functions related to the Device Clinic, including answering calls, distributing reports, posting charges, copying, and filing. The position also involves performing non-invasive diagnostic testing such as cardiac stress tests, nuclear stress tests, and stress echoes to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of heart disorders. Specialty functions include performing transtelephonic pacemaker checks, clinic and bedside pacer/ICD interrogations, and instructing patients and families on post-implant care and device management.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required.
One (1) year of cardiac device experience.
Strong leadership ability.
Good organizational skills.
Independent and critical thinking skills.
Sound judgment.
Knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice.
Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.
Basic working knowledge of computers and office equipment.
Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Pennsylvania required.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program required.
Act 33 with renewal.
Act 34 with renewal.
Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
Current ACLS or completion within six (6) months of hire/transfer into department.
A Nursing refresher course may be required if employee hasn’t worked in an acute care setting for most recent three consecutive years of professional employment.

Promote patient's independence by establishing patient care goals and teaching patient/family about their condition, medications, and self-care skills.

Resolve patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
Maintain a cooperative relationship among health care teams.
Ensure operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, and calling for repairs.
Maintain nursing supplies inventory.
Perform clerical functions related to running the Device Clinic, including answering and making phone calls, distributing reports, posting charges, copying, and filing.
Perform non-invasive diagnostic testing which produces electrocardiographic tracings, to provide data to the physician to aid in the proper diagnosis and treatment of heart disorders.
Instruct patient and family in post implant care, need for telephone checks and clinic visit based on the type of device and manufacturer's recommendations.
Document instruction given in the medical record.
