This part-time position would primarily support a team nurse workflow with cross training to infusion required. Hours for this position are Monday-Thursday 0900-1600. No weekends or holidays. Oncology experience is preferred. Some floating to other cancer care clinics for support may be required. The role utilizes the nursing process to provide ongoing care according to the age-specific and specialty-specific care needs of the patient. It involves assessing educational needs and providing teaching and counseling to the patient and their family, integrating health promotion and preventive aspects of care, and integrating symptom assessment and management according to the treatment plan. The nurse will assess social determinants of health that could impact care and coordinate care to appropriate resources, such as navigation and social work. The role assumes primary responsibility for caseloads consisting of patients in the specialty area, anticipating and recognizing changes in a patient's status and need for care, and determining priorities of patient care based on patient needs and in alignment with the treatment plan. The nurse will provide ongoing assessment of the patient's response to services, apply interventions as appropriate, and update and revise the care plan as needed. Communication with physicians and other providers is essential to confirm, correlate, and update the patient's plan of care, with regular status updates provided. Care coordination in alignment with the specialty care of the patient, such as oral chemotherapy plans in an oncology setting, is also a key responsibility. In the infusion center setting, the nurse will administer medications including chemotherapy, biologic therapies, antibiotics, and other intravenous medications, perform central venous access device management according to policy, and perform transfusion of blood products and therapeutic phlebotomy per guidelines and policies. Telephone consultation/triage and care coordination to patient, family, and/or significant others according to protocol and policies is also part of the role. The nurse will maintain and update accurate clinical and patient records according to system policies and state and federal guidelines. Assistance in the development and implementation of staff orientation and educational activities is expected. The nurse will follow published policies and procedures and regularly monitor changes or additions to them, taking ownership of their professional development in the specialty and continually striving to advance knowledge and practice of clinical skills in the specialty area, including certification as warranted. Participation in or coordination of department and/or site level shared governance activities, journal clubs, and Grand Rounds is expected, as is sharing acquired knowledge with leaders and team members to continue to elevate quality of care in alignment with current clinical and industry standards.
