This is a Per Diem Registered Nurse position in Outpatient Oncology Infusion. The role involves providing ongoing care to patients based on their age-specific and specialty-specific needs, utilizing the nursing process. Key responsibilities include assessing educational needs, providing teaching and counseling, integrating health promotion and preventive care, and managing symptoms according to the treatment plan. The nurse will also assess social determinants of health and coordinate care with appropriate resources. This role assumes primary responsibility for caseloads in the specialty area, anticipating and recognizing changes in patient status, and determining care priorities. The nurse will provide ongoing assessment of patient response to services, update care plans, and communicate with physicians and other providers. In an infusion center setting, the nurse will administer medications including chemotherapy, biologic therapies, antibiotics, and other intravenous medications, manage central venous access devices, and perform transfusions and therapeutic phlebotomy. Telephone consultation, triage, and care coordination are also part of the role. Accurate clinical and patient record maintenance is essential, adhering to system policies and state/federal guidelines. The position also assists in staff orientation and educational activities and is expected to take ownership of professional development, including pursuing certification. Participation in shared governance activities and sharing acquired knowledge with team members is encouraged.
