About The Position

Banner Health is seeking a Registered Nurse RN Operations Support Specialist (ROSS) to join their team at the Banner UMC South Campus in Tucson, Arizona. This role is crucial for supporting staff in PCU, Med/Surg, ICU, and Outpatient Observation units. While not a direct bedside role, the ROSS plays a vital part in supporting teams and patients by managing the onboarding and orientation of new hires, assisting in their career development, and contributing to quality and safety initiatives through data gathering. The position also supports the leadership team in planning, developing, and executing departmental education. This is a Monday-Friday, 8-hour shift role with every other Friday off, ideal for an RN who wants to leverage their critical thinking and organizational skills in a new capacity, focusing on process improvement and staff development. Requirements

  • Must possess knowledge of healthcare as normally obtained through the completion of a Associates degree.
  • Must possess a current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary RN license in state of practice, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice.
  • BLS certification is required.
  • Requires a minimum of one year experience in an acute care hospital setting.
  • Minimal experience, typically gained through 0-2 years relevant experience.
  • Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral or BUMG, BUMCT in a Behavioral Health clinical setting that serves children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.
  • An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.
  • Employees working at BUMCS in a Behavioral Health clinical setting must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the on-boarding and orientation experience for newly hired team members.
  • Assisting in their career development.
  • Gathering data to determine areas that need attention, and as a result you will have an impact on outcomes for our patients.
  • Support the leadership team in planning, development and execution of education for the department.
  • Provide ongoing support to our new team members and in turn maintain staff retention.
  • Monthly check-ins with our new staff will assist in keeping them informed, supported and guided as needed.
  • Use their critical thinking and organizational skills in a new way, improve processes and provide ongoing support and development of the department staff.
  • Supports nurse leadership in the planning, development and execution of facility education for clinicians.
  • Supports the on-boarding and orientation of newly hired registered nurses, career development and effective internal clinical communications.
  • Serves as a liaison between all disciplines by effectively communicating, educating and problem solving.
  • Proactively supports the quality and continuity of services throughout the healthcare systems and assists in resolution of systems issues and enforces facility/unit/department policy/procedures and standards of care.
  • Coordinates oversight of quality, risk management, safety and nursing standards and is a role model and resource person for providing quality patient care and maintaining clinical competency within the facility/unit/department.
  • Collaborates with Clinical Education to coordinate and support the on-boarding and precepting of newly hired nurses (this includes supporting programs and communication within the facility).
  • Develops and coordinates system and facility initiatives to promote clinical career development and lateral nurse pathways and may lead and implement facility clinical initiatives.
  • Contributes to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, safe care.
  • Actively participates in the improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes, such activities may include participating in professional organizations.
  • Performs standard assignments within own job functions.
  • Identifies and solves a range of problems in straightforward situations; analyzes possible solutions and assesses each using established procedures.
  • Responds to non-standard requests from internal and/or external customers; investigates with assistance from others, as needed.
  • Makes decisions within guidelines and policies that impact own priorities and allocation of time to meet deadlines.
