About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Obstetric Emergency Department (OB ED) is a critical member of the Labor & Delivery team, providing specialized, compassionate, and timely care to pregnant and postpartum patients presenting with urgent or emergent concerns. This role requires strong clinical assessment skills, the ability to prioritize rapidly changing conditions, and a commitment to delivering safe, evidence-based care in a fast-paced, high‑acuity environment. The OB ED RN collaborates closely with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesiologists, and the broader multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes and exceptional patient experience.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited college or university affiliated nursing program.
  • Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse RN in Connecticut.
  • BLS required.
  • Demonstrate the ability to consistently provide safe, patient-centered care.
  • Handle/support various organizational responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN graduates preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts rapid triage, performs comprehensive maternal–fetal assessments, and initiates timely interventions based on patient acuity and established protocols.
  • Manages obstetric emergencies, monitors laboring patients prior to admission, and coordinates care transitions.
  • Provides education and emotional support to patients and families.
  • Ensures accurate documentation.
  • Maintains readiness of equipment and supplies.
  • Upholds all safety, quality, and regulatory standards within the department.
