About The Position

As a resident of this one-year program, you’ll be given ample opportunities to expand your clinical reasoning, communication, and leadership skills in the acute care setting.

Requirements

  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Virginia or hold a privilege to practice in the State of Virginia under the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association required upon start.

Nice To Haves

  • If Associates Degree RN, the following requirements will apply: Enroll in an accredited BSN program within 2 years of start date Complete BSN within 5 years of start date

Responsibilities

  • Makes clinical decisions based on experience, patient population data and intuition.
  • Promotes clinical decision making development in all team members.
  • Provides validation of clinical decisions for other team members.
  • Seeks validation from others for complex patients or unfamiliar situations.
  • Supports and empowers patients and families as they progress through the healthcare continuum from health promotion to end of life decisions.
  • Counsels and acts as a resource to resolve issues.
  • Advocates for patients' rights from the patient/family perspective.
  • Assists in assessing patients' learning needs and outcomes measurement of patient education.
  • Anticipates ethical, spiritual and cultural needs while intervening to maximize patient outcomes.
  • Coordinates healthcare and alternate services for patient and family transition planning.
  • Integrates knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum of care to include patient and family education.
  • Interprets trends in patient populations to achieve best practice.
  • Collaborates in the development and implementation of an educational plan for identified needs.
  • Reviews self-development plan and professional goals and seeks new knowledge toward the progression of professional goals.
  • Demonstrates evidence of self-development by obtaining a minimum of six formal contact hours.
  • Maintains own Team Member Continuing Education Record.
